Biography of Joan Faulkner
Joan Faulkner, known as the Voice, was born into a musical family, as both her mother and father's families were singers, and musicians. Her father was a preacher and pastor so like many Black artists, gospel music is Faulkner's musical foundation. Her first appearance on stage was at the age of three, when her father accompanied her on the piano at an *Church event. Faulkner's musical career started when she began singing throughout high school. She sang in several school choirs and began directing the choir at her father's church.
In the early 1980's Faulkner's musical career began to take off in Europe and was met with great appreciation. In Germany, where she lives, she performed with known German groups, big bands, and on TV, including performing with HR Big Band (Hessicher Rundfunk Radio and TV Band), the Roberto Blanco TV Show, and Bill Ramsey Geheimtip TV show. Later in her career, her talent led her to not only perform for live shows and events, but she also had countless opportunities to work with several well known producers in the studio, including Dieter Reith, Marcus Spoon, Frank Farian, founder of the group Milli Vanilli. Farian heard Faulkner sing at a performance and said that "Faulkner has one of the best voices in Europe." Faulkner's signature vocals can be found on many recordings that became world hits, including "This Beat is Hot," by BJ Prince of Rap and "Blame it on the Rain" by Milli Vanilli.
Faulkner has been the opening act for several world renowned artists including Ray Charles, The Weather Girls, and Linda Hopkins Mary Wilson of the Supremes, and Jennifer Rush to name a few. She appeared in several episodes of a German TV series "Klinik Unter Der Palmen" (Clinic Under the Palm Trees) with two famous German actors Hans Jurgen Wussow and Harald Junke where she played a singing nurse called Ella.
Today, Faulkner is a producer of her one woman show "The Journey Called Life," and her "Three Ladies of Blues Show," which has been in production since 2001. In addition to singing, Faulkner is also a songwriter, vocal coach, and book author. Faulkner can sing it all and her repertoire includes singing many genres of music, including gospel, blues, jazz, R&B, and pop.
